Matthew Saldaña’19 is MTB State Champion

On Sunday, May 14th, Matthew Saldaña ’19 rode his mountain bike to victory and became a state champion at the High School MTB State Championships held in Petaluma. The win was a dramatic finish. As Matthew carried his broken bike across the finish line, another rider passed him with an outstretched arm in victory. Dejected, Matthew thought he had come in second until he was told the other rider was racing in different category. Other Chieftains competing in the state championships were Evan McNiel ’17 and Isaac Thomas ’17. Now it’s off to nationals for Matthew. Congratulations!
