On Friday, May 6th, the Palma team battled all night. Trading points back and forth with Hollister and sitting 10 points down going into the 200 meters. But a 22-6 point swing turned a deficit into a 7-point lead and the boys never looked back. We claimed seven individual titles and one relay title. The team was led by Emilio Martinez ’17 who racked up 24 individual points with wins in the 100, 200, fourth in the long jump and anchored the winning 4x100 team. Isaiah Blanco ’17 had 18 points with a title in the 400 and secondplace in the 200, also the 4x100 team and anchored the 4x400 to fourth. SamLavarato ’19 had 18 points with a win in the 3200 and second in the 1600. Jack Fling ’17 scored 17 and had a league title in the pole vault, third in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump. Drew Dalman ’17 produced 14 points while defending his discus title and fourth in the shot putt. Kevin Telford ’17 had 12 points with third place finishes in the 400 and 300H and a leg on the 4x100. Reno DiTullio ’18 defended his high jump crown and moved to #7 on the all time list at Palma with a jump of 6’3.” BUT the true margin of victory for the team title came from the fourth-sixth place points…the first-third place points were 116 total. What put us over the top were the fourth-sixth place which tallied another 32 points for the win! Tommy Padilla ’19 scored 10 points with second in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600; Vianni Fratangelo ’17 was fourth in the 100 and 200; Ocatvio Rubio ’18 fourth in the 800 and ran a leg on fourth place 4x400; Christian Gallardo ’17 sixthin the 300H and 4x400 leg; Beau Winslow ’17 fifth in the shot put; Stanley Smith ’17 fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot; Colby Caudill ’19 sixth in the high jump and freshman Micah Olivas leading off our 4x100 team and a leg on the fourth place 4x400. Zach Taylor ’18 and Zac Flores ’17 finished a spot out of points and are first alternates for the master meet! Overall 15 athletes scored in 24 opportunities…an incredible night of focused athleticism to achieve a common goal!
