LEtter From the President

Dalman Chris 23

On Thursday, July 18, Palma held a leadership camp for our high school students. I had the pleasure of addressing the students for a couple of minutes before they took off with the day’s activities. There was a lot of laughter and enthusiasm as this incredible group of young Chieftains took the first few steps into the Palma of the future. I was glad I was there to experience it.

As we move into the next few weeks, I can't help but feel the excitement in the air. New friendships will be formed, new challenges will be faced, and the school year will unfold with all its opportunities. With new classes to tackle, sports to participate in, and activities to jump headfirst into, I look forward to our students embracing all of this and more. The anticipation for the new school year is palpable, and I'm sure it will be an exciting one for all of us.

If you have driven by the school in the past few weeks, you will have seen more construction crews than student/faculty cars. The gymnasium locker rooms and restrooms are being completely remodeled, while the foyer of the gym is now just a hole in the ground. A majority of these projects will be wrapped up in the coming weeks, but the front of the gymnasium will be under construction through the start of the school year. Operationally, this will not deter our students in their activities and their everyday moving through our campus, but I do appreciate your patience as we finish up these last few projects that will be incredibly exciting for our students in the next few months and years to come. The main office has been moved temporarily to the Advancement Office on the right side of the parking lot if you come by the school over the next few weeks to drop off paperwork. I anticipate our office will be back and running in its usual location by the start of school.

Once again, I am grateful for your patience and understanding during these construction projects. I understand that it can be inconvenient at times, but your support is truly appreciated. I look forward to seeing each of you as we start this very exciting 2024/2025 school year.

Go Chieftains,

Sig - Dalman

LETTER from the Principal

Sullivan David 23

Dear People of Palma,

On behalf of the Palma Family, I welcome you to our 73rd year of excellence in education, where our commitment to knowledge, service, and leadership are the standard for college prep learning, formation of Christian character and success for life! The new school year is almost here! Our teachers, staff, and coaches are all looking forward to serving you and getting to know the many families who are new to Palma! We appreciate you, Chieftains, young men and women!

If you have not yet purchased books, please do so ASAP! Supplies are already in demand everywhere at this time of year, and timely shipping of materials can be difficult to manage. Remember that it is a Chieftain’s responsibility to come to class with the right resources, prepared to learn. Course information was emailed to you on June 28.

Here are just a few more start of year reminders, information about which can be found enclosed in this newsletter and on our school’s website:

  • HS Orientation Day (Fri, Aug. 9) – All Frosh and students new to gr. 10-12. Times and details are enclosed and attendance is strongly encouraged, but not required.
  • HS New Parents’ Orientations 8:30-9:30am For those new to HS, the Parents’ Orientation will be F, Aug. 9; for those new to JH, the Parents’ Orientation will be M, Aug. 12. All are invited to join us for a presentation by administrators and directors, with some tech orientation for parents to navigate iPad learning, grades, digital postings, daily announcements, and more.
  • ALL Students’ Orientation Day (Mon, Aug. 12) – This is mandatory for all students, who are required to be on time and properly groomed in dress code. Students will also take ID pictures. For most, student orientations are about one hour. For those in grades 6 and 7, however, students should plan to be on campus from 8:00-10:00 am. Scheduled times for each grade level are enclosed.
  • Red & Gold Day (Sat, Aug. 17) – Coordinated by the Athletic Council and volunteers this is a family-friendly fun day. You can purchase a delicious barbecue meal, participate in a Farmer’s Market, and buy some Palma swag. See the flyer enclosed.

We have so much to celebrate! Each of us makes a conscious commitment to cultivate a community where all are to be welcomed, celebrated and affirmed with the awareness that we are investing in perhaps the most important endeavor of all: the education of young men and women in mind, body and soul. I thank each of you for your important role in the mission of Palma. God bless you. Go Chieftains!

Yours in Blessed Edmund Rice,

Sig David Sullivan-1

Mission
The purpose of the Parents’ Club is to build a sense of community among all Palma parents, to support the endeavors of Palma School, and to assist in the implementation of the school’s Mission Statement. Meetings are usually held on or near the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00pm in the Cislini Study Center (CSC), with the exception of December and summer. Every parent is a member fo the Parents’ Club by virtue of having a student enrolled at Palma. We encourage all Palma parents to get involved in Palma Parents’ Club by attending meetings, being an event chair or volunteering for one of our many events.
